To be or not to be....in love? That is the question in this sizzling Haslemere Players production of legendary composer and songwriter, Cole Porter's epic musical comedy, Kiss Me Kate.

Kiss Me Kate's story revolves around a theatre company touring with a musical version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Intertwining, farcical plots bring hilarious consequences: Lili Vanessi and Fred Graham, ex-husband and wife whose constant bickering mirrors their Shakespearian characters of Katherine and Petruchio, especially when a misunderstanding results in an argument played out live on stage. And Lois Lane, the actress playing Bianca (who Fred's taken a shine to!) and her gambler boyfriend Bill, who plays Lucentio and gets himself into trouble and debt in real life, falling foul of a pair of gangsters.

With backstage shenanigans, a flirtatious ingenue, singing gangsters, a gambling hoofer, a misogynistic General, idyllic Shakespearian sonnets - not to mention a romance that is "too darn hot" - plus the amazing songs of Cole Porter and full company dance routines - you have a truly fabulous show waiting in the wings!

With Cole Porter classics such as Brush up your Shakespeare, Always True to You, Tom, Dick and Harry, Another Opening, Another Show and, of course, the iconic Too Darn Hot, the show was hailed as the ultimate Broadway musical from the golden age. Premiering in 1948, Kiss Me Kate ran for over 1,000 performances on Broadway and in 1949, won the first ever Tony award for Best Musical.
